Saturday evening thoughts....

After a busy day that began by meeting friends for breakfast and then running all over the SWAC area, I'm couched in for the evening. It's cool outside (66 degrees as I type) and rainy. We are so dry in the Shenandoah Valley that we'll take the steady drizzle. All the windows are open and I was sitting on the porch earlier enjoying the cool air, a refreshing respite from the hot, dry heat we've seen so much of this summer. I hope it rains all night. We're not going anywhere and there's an Andy Griffith marathon on TV Land. An episode from 1966 had a very young Jack Nicholson playing a bit part....

Tomatoes from the garden are abundant and we've been sharing them with friends. The corn is stunted from lack of rain ... jalapeno, banana, and green bell peppers are doing well. The squash plants aren't producing as usual but the Yukon Gold potatoes are extra large and plentiful this year. It's interesting to see how dry weather affects various veggies....

A neighbor just stopped by with banana pudding. While making some for a church event tonight, she set aside extra to share. SWAC Husband made sure she left with a bag of tomatoes....

The chicory and Queen Anne's Lace are both blooming throughout the Valley ... the chicory's papery blue blossoms and the delicate white blooms of Queen Anne's Lace. Found growing wild along roadways and in fields, they add beauty to the late days of summer....

July 31st ... Happy birthday to SWAC Husband and may he have many more.

Also happy birthday to Sgt. Nate Salatin, USMC, who shares the same special day. We're grateful for his service to our country, serving two tours during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in the Marine Reserve while attending Virginia Military Institute (VMI)....

I have a back log of photos to post. Things have been really busy lately but hope to get some good photos up of SWAC Niece at camp, the mountains, friends building a children's stage at church....

Friends who are in Alaska are keeping us updated on their trip and it is really interesting to follow along in their adventure. God speed as they enjoy an extended vacation....

Summer is waning ... tomorrow is August and many local schools to back in a couple of weeks. We'll enjoy it while we can....
