Remembering Rocky Mountain thunderstorms while waiting for Shenandoah Valley rain

Thunderstorms gather over Breckenridge, CO.

Dark clouds and rain in Breckenridge with snow-capped mountains in the distance.

As I sit here listening to distant thunder and wondering if we will receive any rain out of the scattered storms, I'm reminded of three years ago this week as we visited family in Colorado and enjoyed the daily afternoon Rocky Mountain thunderstorms. Not only did they provide rain but also cooled down the atmosphere.

Boulder was hot ... Denver was hot ... Breckenridge was cool and wonderful. It's a nice memory as I watch the wind pick up outside the window and hope for rain.

It's summer in the Shenandoah Valley....

We've spent a lot of time in Colorado in the past, and those summer thunderstorms are wonderful and beautiful.

They ARE beautiful and, of course, the backdrop if beautiful, too. Looking at those photos today took me back to the Rockies, a place I have spent quite a bit of time over the years.
