Tonight: Bill Bolling is featured speaker at RTD's Public Square

Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling will serve as the featured speaker for the Richmond Times-Dispatch Public Square event tonight, Tuesday, February 23rd, at 7:00 pm. Lt. Governor Bolling will discuss the McDonnell/Bolling Jobs and Opportunities Legislative Agenda and his role as the Chief Jobs Creation Officer. The community is invited and encouraged to participate.

The event will take place at 300 E. Franklin Street in Richmond.

I passed reporter Jeff Schapiro while walking from Greg Letiecq's recording studio back to Bloggers Row at the RPV Convention on Saturday, and asked if I could get a photo. He suggested it be of the both of us ... I wanted just him.

We negotiated back and forth and I felt I wasn't going to get my photo ... and then he laughed and agreed. After his appearance at the Homestead sans bow tie at the Republican Advance in December, I kidded him about having it on as he has all the years I've seen him out and about covering politics in Richmond.

RTD: "American Jihad"

Dozens of people were trampled to death yesterday in cities across America as Christians outraged by a Hollywood movie took to the streets.

Provoked by The Golden Compass, a film based on a book trilogy by a British atheist whose stated aim is to "undermine the basis of Christian belief," thousands of militant Christians marched through New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Amid chants of "God is great," they demanded death for the movie's producer, director, and star Nicole Kidman, as well as for the author of the trilogy, Philip Pullman.

Burning cars, looting buildings, and promising to wage holy war against anyone who insults Christianity, the . . .

Oh, wait. Outraged Christians apparently haven't done anything of the sort. They have done nothing but call the movie offensive, and urge one another not to watch it. That seems like a pretty mature and civilized response.

Ross Mackenzie, retired from RTD, best editor out there....

Ross Mackenzie, who retired earlier this year from the Richmond Times Dispatch, is my favorite newspaper editor, as I've stated before. He speaks plain truth and common sense in a sea of media liberalism and, therefore, comes under attack from the lefties. He is the best part of the TD's Sunday edition ... I go immediately to his column before reading anything else.

Yesterday was another common sense column about the war, the libs, their outrage, the facts, their ignoring of the facts, and how we can and will win this war with no help from the anti-war protesters. He wrote:

The September debate over Iraq, more likely to resemble a raging, primal scream on the part of the left than a lilting September song, could lead to loss of the war - just as, not on the battlefield but in Washington, we lost the war in Vietnam.

You can't possibly mean that.

Oh, but I do. We had it won, even with the Communists operating from their privileged sanctuaries in Cambodia and the North. We won it in the Tet offensive, written by the media elite (too many of them hotel barflies trying to sound like Socrates) as a defeat for our side and sold as such in D.C. and - via television - in the nation's living rooms.
