"The flag lady" of Waynesboro passes away....

Her name was Carolyn Eavey and she was a patriotic citizen who worked to provide that downtown Waynesboro had American flags displayed especially on holidays.

She passed away on Wednesday at the age of 73.

Born in Staunton, Mrs. Eavey was raised and lived her life in Waynesboro and was involved in many activities including serving as founder and chairman of the Waynesboro Downtown Flag Committee from 1988-2005.

Her obituary gives more details of her lifelong activities, including the fact that she donated her organs to help others to live and her request to be cremated, and ended with this:
Her final request was that family and friends "plant a tree instead of me to help our environment."
Her friends gathered earlier this week at Augusta Medical Center to celebrate her life. No memorial service is planned.
