No "Governor Allen" in 2009....

Former Governor George Allen has decided to forgo a run at governor in 2009. His high profile throughout the state during the fall and winter had raised speculation that he would throw his cowboy hat in the ring with Attorney General Bob McDonnell and Lt. Governor Bill Bolling.

He put all that to rest today with a statement that was released to the Associated Press:
The Republican wrote that he and his wife, Susan, had struggled with and prayed about whether to run for governor again so soon after the loss.

"We will always fondly recall our time in the Governor's Mansion as an unparalleled honor and a period of historic initiatives and transformational accomplishments for Virginians. Yet, as we look forward, we are excited about other significant ways we can serve and contribute outside of elected office. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2009."
Attention will now turn to the AG and LG ... will they go up against each other?

I think this is a wise decision...I am hoping Allen runs against Jim Webb in 2012.

I hope Bill Bolling seeks another term as Liet. Governor.

Frankly, I'm glad the speculation and wondering are now over. Allen is a great public servant, but it is time for a new star in the GOP to shine.... Bob McDonnell.

The Attorney General is the right person for the job. His record, likeability, and electability all make him the # 1 chance the GOP has in 2009 to regain the Governor's mansion.

Although the Lt. Gov is a good guy, McDonnell is the one who has the record, experience, and charisma to win for the GOP in 2009.

Run Bob Run!!

I'm sure Bolling and McDonnell will run against each other in 09. McDonnell should win that contest and win the general election as well. He has appeal in all parts of Virginia, having been raised in northern Virginia, then raising his family in Hampton Roads for over 20 years. As AG, he lives in Richmond of course.

He has the statewide record, clout and organization to beat the Dems in 09. Go Bob!

Check out www.bobmcdonnell.com for his legislative agenda, which Bob McDonnell announced today. Lots of excellent initiatives. This couples with his past two sessions as AG and 14 sessions in the House of Delegates, is a record that can't be beat. He's got ties in SW, the Valley, Tidewater, NOVA and Richmond. Bob McDonnell is the kind of leader we need to win in 2009 and take back the Governor's Mansion. Run Bob Run!!!

I have to disagree with those who support McDonnell. I am very excited to see Bill Bolling run. Bill Bolling has done an outstanding job in both the State Senate and as Lt. Governor. His 100 ideas for Virginia campaign showed that he truly cares about what Virginians want and need. He does a great job conveying his message to Virginia. Also, he has been actively involved in assuring that Virginians also have opportunities to improve their health, including initiatives in cervical cancer, asthma, etc. I look forward to seeing him inspire progress in VA.
