Boy Scouts: "Leadership taught here"

Boy Scouts hailed as heroes in aftermath of tragedy

A tornado unexpectedly struck a Boy Scout camp in Iowa Wednesday night, sending Scouts running for cover in one of the huts only to be have the hut struck by the tornado, killing four Scouts. Amidst a horrific thunderstorm, the funnel cloud dropped out of the sky causing tragedy and injuring 48.

The young men were in a leadership training camp ... and their leadership abilities shone through as they sprung into action, breaking into a storage shed to retrieve an ATV and chainsaws to help clear the area of downed trees to reach the injured. Scouts who had received emergency first aid began bandaging the wounded before rescue workers could reach them.

According to Fox News, the young men were hailed as heroes by the governor:
"They're real heroes, these young men," Iowa Gov. Chet Culver said Thursday. "These camp directors and these youth counselors and others ... literally saved lives during this time period when emergency management couldn't get to them."
Prayers go to the families of those killed and to those who were injured.
