Flag Day 2008

It's Flag Day. Do you have your American flag on display?

Proclaimed in 1916 by Staunton's own Woodrow Wilson, Flag Day was started as a way for Americans to honor and show respect for the symbol of our nation, the symbol that represents those who have died defending America's freedoms.

Check these websites for more information on the history of Flag Day, and the proper ways to fly the flag.

Today is the birthday of the United States Army - 1775. The Army was in the field for a full year before the Declaration of Independence.

The ethic of the Army as a service, its culture as an institution, is based on what it started in the Revolution and continues today. The Army is the nation's servant.

If there had been no Army, there would be no America. The Army's motto is "This We'll Defend".
