Dry in the Shenandoah Valley....

A combination of mid-August and dry weather
has leaves covering the ground.

Dry brown grass and leaves on the ground ...
some trees' leaf canvas is thinning out.

Fallen leaves cover the backyard.

The first peach tree is finished but the
second tree is now loaded with peaches
that are almost ready to pick.

It is mid-August and a few nights in the upper 40s have reminded us that autumn is not far away. This week we have enjoyed low humidity, breezes, and comfortable temperatures in the 70s and low 80s ... but we are dry. While some areas of the Valley have received sufficient rainfall, we have not.

The grass is brown and crackly underfoot ... the garden is parched ... trees that normally begin losing their leaves in late August are shedding them earlier this year, covering the ground with a fall-like carpet of yellows and browns.

We are not critical on water but a couple of good, soaking days of rainfall would be nice. It may take the effects of a hurricane to break the drought.

It's late summer in the Valley....
