Schools closed in SWAC area ... ice to be followed by snow

We woke this morning to thick fog and an icy mist that has been building a layer of ice on the deck, tree limbs, and grassy surfaces. A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Forecast, and SWAC area schools, public and private, are out today. There's a prediction of snow moving in by mid-day with a possibility of 4-12" depending on which weather forecast you hear.

WHSV TV-3 in Harrisonburg is calling for 4-8" of snow with some sleet.

WVIR NBC-29 out of Charlottesville has weather listings for the Valley as well as Charlottesville and areas in central Virginia. Eric Pritchett is my favorite weather guy but since the government made everyone get those TV adapters last year, we are no longer able to pick up NBC-29 at our house in western Augusta County. Thanks, U.S. Government.

WxRisk out of the Richmond area appears to have been consistent in forecasting snow for the Shenandoah Valley and today sticks with that prediction, putting us in the 6-12" range for snow and posting shortly after 10 this morning:
IS IT OVER??? NO it is NOT! . FREE HUGE VERY DETAILED RADAR IMAGE shows 2 areas of PRECIP... one over the NE- that came though VA last night-- SECOND area over eastern KY WVA southwest VA.. THAT IS THE ONE TO WATCH... as it comes ENE...
Weather-wise, it will be an interesting day as I look out the window at a gray winter day.

Any snow received is expected to be heavy and wet so couple that along with ice accumulation (even small amounts) and it would suggest to be prepared just in case the electricity goes out. Get the firewood in ... it will be a cold evening. The snow has begun in western Augusta County.

It's winter in the Shenandoah Valley....
