Historic Homestead Resort in snowy Allegheny Mountains

One of my favorite places in Virginia, The Homestead has been housing travelers since 1766. Many take the waters, enjoying the hot springs, while others visit for the winter sports at this time of year. Snow only enhanced the lawns of this beautiful location in the Allegheny Mountains of western Virginia.

We walked the grounds, checking out new construction and new features, while temperatures hovered in the mid-30s.

This historic chandalier caught my eye in the Commonwealth Room.

Checking out windows of the Homestead shops.

The Casino located on the lawn outside the West Wing.

It was great to see that the huge Christmas tree still towered over the Grand Hall while fireplaces crackled and warmed guests enjoying the ambiance of the surroundings.

 The West Wing.

The Casino's porch is nice in summer ...

... but inside was more inviting in the chilly temperatures of January.

 Christmas decor ...

The Homestead is beautiful in all seasons but snow on the ground is one of my favorite times.
