Opening day for 2013 Virginia General Assembly

So here we are on the first day of the 2013 General Assembly session as a certain kind of hectic craziness takes over Richmond. Beginning today through February 22, thousands will descend on Virginia's historic Capitol to visit with legislators and sit in on sessions -- school groups, special interest groups, political groups, and those who represent everything in between -- will arrive by the bus load. Rallies for various interests will take place at the Bell Tower -- protesters and supporters will walk the grounds -- during this six-week "short" session held on odd-numbered years.

Virginia's citizen legislators and their staffers have moved back into offices ... lobbyists are poised to visit representatives to push their chosen projects ... political reporters are ready to chase stories of interest to readers. The city buzzes with all the activity ... parking becomes practically non-existent ... Capitol Police are on high alert with all the visitors ... year-round state employees brace for the annual onslaught of activity.

Brace yourself ... and thanks to all who serve.
