The news coming out of the military conflict between Russia and Georgia is not good with reports of hundreds -- possibly thousands -- of fatalities. Vice President Dick Cheney has said Russia's actions cannot go unanswered.
Is this resurgence of military power a sign that the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) is making a return?

No. Russia faces a demographic bomb - de-population and exploding Muslim population.
This dust up with Georgia - which Georgia started - is Russia being Russia. Makes sense from their perspective.
I suppose I do not know enough about the situation but it seems to be a move of aggression on Russia's behalf.
From what I understand, one province did not want to break from Russia during independence so that is where this is coming from? The news, however, shows Russia troops are moving on into Georgia against the wishes of those citizens leading hundreds of dead in their wake.
