Tuesday was a beautiful day in Shenandoah National Park with temps in the mid-70s and sunshine. The winter woods offer a unique opportunity to see boulders and stone walls and vistas not available once the trees leaf out. We could also see lots of down wood on the forest floor, one reason the National Park Service has started a prescribed burn today, April 10, that will cover 500 acres in the Jarman Gap area of the Park.

A number of overlooks along the southern section of Skyline Drive are closed for repaving and rebuilding of stone walls.

Gas tanks have been removed from the Loft Mountain Wayside. The only gasoline now available on the Skyline Drive is at Big Meadows Wayside.
Loft Mountain campground will reopen May 24. The Wayside will reopen April 26 from 9-6 daily.
