Augusta County ... can we move on yet?

The Augusta County GOP situation reminds me of the story of King Solomon who was faced with two women who claimed to be mothers of the same child. Solomon finally ordered his aide to cut the baby in half so each woman could have half ... at which time the real mother sadly gave the baby over to the other woman. That was when Solomon knew who was the real mother.

In Augusta County you have Chairman Kurt Michael who has led and nurtured the Republicans as chairman for the past five years. Coming out of a mangled mass meeting, he did what was legally necessary to preserve the rights of Augusta citizens to attend the 6th District and State Conventions.

Dr. Michael stated at a press conference on April 18, 2008, that he intended to step down as chairman on May 31st after being sure the Augusta County delegates were allowed to attend the 6th District and State Conventions. Saturday's 6th District convention proved that Emmett Hanger is determined to buck the rules and bring extra delegates who are not signed up to attend.

Even though he was declared chairman by the 6th District Committee, and he was declared chairman by the Emmett Hanger side in court, Kurt Michael plans to do what is right for Augusta County and step aside, allowing an election for a new, hopefully more neutral, chairman.

Meanwhile, Larry Roller continues to push the issue by saying he will appeal to be declared rightful chair even though it will continue the turmoil.

Isn't this a bit like King Solomon with the before-mentioned parable? The one who is truly interested in what is best for the Unit is stepping away.

Who really cares about Augusta County Republicans?

DJ McGuire has some thoughts on this "war" in Augusta County.
