North River Recreation Area: Wildflowers and back roads

Wildflowers were in full bloom in the mountains and many, like this, were covered with bees.


The short, scrub, top-of-the-mountain pine trees were loaded with pine cones.

Some forestry roads are in rough shape and only advisable for four-wheel drive vehicles.

The mountains that make up the North River Recreation Area in the George Washington National Forest.
