Barack Obama was supposed to have a press conference at 1:00 this afternoon. It's now 1:45 and he's still a no-show. He seems to be habitually late which reminds me of George W. Bush who was consistently on time because, as he explained, other people's time was just as important as his.
So the TV cameras are trained on an empty podium at the White House....
Update 1:53: Obama finally showed up and is blaming everyone else again. "The gridlock in DC has not been constructive...."
His proposal: tax reform and modest adjustments to programs such as Medicare. "Lack of political will to make things right."
Meanwhile, the Dow is down 400+ points and continues to drop....
"We will stay on it until we get the job done." Does that mean he's not going to Martha's Vineyard on vacation?
Update:As the President talked, the Dow continued to tumble into the 500s. Upon the end of the press conference, the Dow plunged down 605 before finally making its way back up into the 400s.
Update: The Dow closed for the day down 635 points at 10,809.
