Today in DC: Doctors protest ObamaCare

What do America's health care professionals think about ObamaCare?

Today they will hold a Physicians Stand Together Rally, Washington, DC to protest Democrats' proposed government takeover of private health care.

Doctors from across the country will converge on the nation's capital wearing scrubs and lab coats -- a sea of blue and white -- taking their concerns to their representatives. A rally will follow from 5:30-6:30 in Upper Senate Park.

From the Shenandoah Valley, six buses going to DC on Saturday will include local health care professionals who are against this Democrat-proposed plan.

It is unsettling to know the ones who take care of you are against this plan. If you are in DC today, talk with some of those physicians who are there to protest socialized medicine.

Will Obama be listening?

I doubt it.

Tomorrow ... a day to pause and remember

9/11 ... this year marks the eighth anniversary of the worst attack ever on American soil. It's a time to pause, reflect, remember, and honor those who were killed in those horrific terrorist attacks and those who have sacrificed to protect our freedoms since that time.
May we never forget.

RNC: Live response to Obama's Wed. Congressional Address

The RNC will be responding minute-by-minute to President Barack Obama's address to Congress at 8 PM EDT tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, 2009. The RNC will be blogging live from its Washington, DC headquarters at www.GOP.com/LiveResponse.

The live blog will offer "real-time" fact-checking during President Obama's address concerning his proposed government-run health care experiment and how it will impact all generations of Americans.

Tune in ... www.GOP.com/LiveResponse.

We surround him....

Several years ago conservative radio and CNN TV talk show host Glenn Beck warned of a financial crisis in America. He saw the handwriting on the wall ... but he was dismissed as a nut and a conspiracy theorist.

In late 2008-early 2009, this nation plunged into a financial crisis.

Earlier this year Beck moved to Fox News Channel. Using his own researchers and those provided at Fox, he conducted extensive research into radical groups, leaders, and those who are around and appointed by Barack Obama. He has used his radio and TV shows to disseminate that information to the American people.

The response has been phenomenal. He has unearthed information about Van Jones, the so-called "Green Jobs Czar," who had been an avowed communist and a 9/11 "truther" (believed the U.S. Government was behind the 9/11 terrorism attacks) and much more. Beck exposed information about Jones as well as other "czars" who have not been vetted but have access to the White House, and began digging into ACORN, that group that Obama once was a part of and appears to still be utilized by Obama.

Glenn Beck began connecting the dots.

In the wee hours of the morning of September 6, Van Jones resigned from the Obama administration.

On March 13, 2009, Glenn Beck urged ordinary citizens to get together for "We Surround Them" parties to show they were not alone, that there were many others who were concerned about out-of-control spending of the government and other concerns. Thousands across the country turned out and watched his 5:00 Fox News show outlining the 9/12 Project. He urged them to regather on Sept. 12.

Now Glenn Beck is under attack from the liberal left. His life has been threatened, his family has been threatened, his staff has been threatened, and they have vowed to destroy him however they can. For what? For speaking out, for exposing those who would endanger this country, and for not stopping when intimidated by those very people.

Today's NewsMax announces that Keith Olbermann is asking for help in digging up "dirt" on Beck:
After Glenn Beck scored a touchdown for the right with the announcement this weekend that Obama’s Green Jobs Czar Van Jones had resigned, liberal MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has come out swinging.

In a post made to his Daily Kos blog, Olbermann says he wants readers to help him dig up dirt on Beck, as well as Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.

Olbermann promised his fans: “Tuesday we will expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts, on Beck, his radio producer Burguiere, and the chief of his TV enablers, Ailes (even though Ailes' power was desperately undercut when he failed to pull off his phony "truce" push).”
The angry left cannot respond with facts. They respond with vitriol and character assassination.

All those ordinary citizens who were assured by Mr. Beck that they were not alone have now closed in and surrounded him to let him know he is not alone.

We surround him....

Virginia Sen. Webb & Warner ... no accountability to constituents?

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner skated through the Congressional recess by having only one townhall meeting in Fredericksburg ... by facing his constituents only once.

Sen. Jim Webb skated through the Congressional recess by having NO townhall meetings.

A friend sent the following which expresses what I have heard from others:
If you haven't seen this video of Senator Warner, it is worth watching. He comes across as arrogant and belligerent.

Further, he is like Obama using a "straw man" argument: if you don't want the federal government to take over the entire private sector medical insurance system at an additional increase in debt of $1,500,000,000,000, it means you want to get rid of Medicare. Warner is proving to be as elitist and liberal as Obama.

Sen. Mark Warner: ‘No Place In Constitution That Says Health Care’

For the record, If they want to give me all the money I have contributed to Medicare over the past 40 years, with interest compounded at the rate of inflation, I will be happy to get off Medicare and take care of myself.

09.12.09: America Goes to Washington

That Neil Diamond song, "They're Coming To America," could be renamed this Saturday to "They're Coming To Washington." Across the country thousands and thousands are making the journey to the nation's capital to stand up and make their voices heard.

Thousands of others will hold local tea parties and watch the event on Fox News from 1-3:00 pm at "We Surround Them" parties.

There are six buses filled to the max from the Shenandoah Valley with a waiting list as long as your arm of others who want to go with us. Many others are driving up and taking the Metro in ... others are taking their chances driving into DC. There may be traffic gridlock that day and you know what? That would be wonderful! Conservative Americans are finally making a huge statement and doing something they have never done before!

Here in the Valley, passengers are being picked up at four locations ... six buses, each with a bus leader, each with a cooler of bottled water, each with unique folks from these western Virginia communities who have the blood of the Founding Fathers coarsing through their veins ... those who are not afraid to stand up and be heard.

Most have never "demonstrated" before. Young people are being joined by their grandparents ... one couple legally immigrated to America from Holland and Germany and have seen socialism up close ... there are military veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea, and WW II. The stories are many and varied.

They love God and country. All are alarmed at out-of-control government spending. All are frustrated and concerned about the future of America. All feel so strongly that they are paying their own way and giving up an entire day.

On 9/12, the day after 9/11 when the worst attack ever occurred in America, history will again be made in America. It will be the day Washington was so inundated with concerned citizens from across the land that they could not all fit in the Nation's Mall.

From Glenn Beck's book, Common Sense, p. ix:

Do not remain neutral. Do not sit idly by. Do not let others speak for you. Silence has gotten us nowhere so it's once again time for our collective voice to make a simple yet powerful demand ... Don't Tread on Me.
09.12.09: The Silent Majority will roar. Be part of us.

MSM assailed George H.W. Bush for talking to school children

So Democrats and liberal bloggers are calling conservatives' concerns over President Barack Obama's speech to school children nationwide as hysteria and stupidity. Interesting when the shoe is on the other foot.

In 1991, Democrats and the Washington Post called for investigations into President George H.W. Bush's administration when he addressed school chidren. Byron York at the Washington Examiner recalls:
The controversy over President Obama's speech to the nation's schoolchildren will likely be over shortly after Obama speaks today at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. But when President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1, 1991, from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC, the controversy was just beginning.
Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush's speech -- they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue.

Unlike the Obama speech, in 1991 most of the controversy came after, not before, the president's school appearance. The day after Bush spoke, the Washington Post published a front-page story suggesting the speech was carefully staged for the president's political benefit.

"The White House turned a Northwest Washington junior high classroom into a television studio and its students into props," the Post reported.
The National Education Association denounced the speech.

A Democrat is now in the White House. Interesting how the NEA and Democrats have changed their tune.

Labor Day: "Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"

[Encore post in honor of Labor Day ... and check out this 2007 From On High post...]

My Blogger and Facebook profiles feature a quote I grew up with:
"Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime."
When my children were young, they asked the difference between Republicans and Democrats, and I used that quote as a springboard into a conversation that continues to this day with my two conservative young adults.

Today I received an email from a reader, Paul Ross, and with his permission I share it:
I just wanted to drop you a line and say that I love your quote, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

When I am teaching around the country, I say it like this:
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man how to own the fishing pond and you’ll feed his children’s children. Teach him to own fishing ponds in multiple markets and you’ll feed his family to the fourth generation."
Gotta love our free enterprise system. Just an interesting thought – be blessed.
I worry for the future of our free enterprise system with our government that is intent on funding everyone and everything, taking over private companies, and will soon be unanswerable to anyone if a filibuster-proof Senate is in place.

We need more who are willing to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, work hard, take personal responsibility, and strive for the American dream.

AP published photo of dying Marine against family's wishes

What is it with some in the mainstream media? Do they not understand they are Amerians first and reporters second? What about the decency of being fellow human beings ... what about the decency of respecting the wishes of a deceased Marine's family?

USMC Lance Cpl. Joshua Bernard, 21, was mortally wounded by a grenade in Afghanistan on August 14. An embedded Associated Press photographer -- a woman -- snapped photos of the dying Marine as fellow Marines tried to save his life.

When the family of Lance Cpl. Bernard became aware of the photo, they asked -- twice -- that it not be published. Defense Secretary Robert Gates asked that it not be published and followed up with a phone call ... all to no avail:
Gates wrote a strongly worded letter to AP President and CEO Tom Curley on Thursday, saying it was a matter of "judgment and common decency" not to use the photo. A Pentagon spokesman said Gates followed up with a phone call "begging" Curley not to use it.
The AP decided to publish it anyway. Why? From the Washington Examiner:
[AP photographer] Julie Jacobson had been embedded with the unit and had photographed the Marines, including Lance Cpl. Bernard immediately prior to the ambush. She had also kept a journal in which she had described the attack and the care the other Marines had provided.

Describing her decision to publish the image to the St. Petersburg Times Julie Jacobsen stated,”To ignore a moment like that simply ... would have been wrong. I was recording his impending death, just as I had recorded his life moments before walking the point in the bazaar," she said. "Death is a part of life and most certainly a part of war. Isn't that why we're here? To document for now and for history the events of this war?”
I dare say Ms. Jacobsen is not a mother. I almost question whether she is a human being after such a blatant comment. A heart of stone would be needed to ignore the wishes of a young man's parents.

Secretary Gates wrote that "use of the photo of a wounded Bernard would mark an "unconscionable departure" from the restraint that most journalists have shown in covering the military since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks." When the AP still published the photo, he followed up:
"Why your organization would purposely defy the family's wishes knowing full well that it will lead to yet more anguish is beyond me," Gates wrote. "Your lack of compassion and common sense in choosing to put this image of their maimed and stricken child on the front page of multiple newspapers is appalling."
I also would dare say the MSM is trying to recreate the Vietnam war by playing on the emotions of the American public ... at the expense of the very families who have made the biggest sacrifice in the ongoing war on terrorism.

The AP's director of photography, Santiago Lyon, put out a statement defending the decision:
AP journalists document world events every day. Afghanistan is no exception. We feel it is our journalistic duty to show the reality of the war there, however unpleasant and brutal that sometimes is.
Against the wishes of the family? It makes no sense.

Did they bother to talk with the parents and learn about the young man they were about to exploit?

Lance Cpl. Bernard's father John was on Fox and Friends Monday morning where the Marine veteran emphasized that the family did not want that photo of his son published, and then described a gentle young man who went to war.

He also emphasized that the Rules of Engagement -- ROE -- need to be changed. With no time to explain, I would guess he is talking about the fact that political correctness has followed our military into war and, as a result, soldiers and Marines are dying because of it.

Here's an idea: send those who make the rules into combat zones and see if they still feel the same.

Perhaps the headline of the story should be, "Change the Rules of Engagement ... military dying because of them."

America is at WAR ... we are not on a cake walk. Our military is putting itself in harm's way and politicians are tying their hands. August was the deadliest month in the ongoing war on terrorism ... this under Barack Obama and the Democrats' watch.

On Fox and Friends, a composed yet grieving father talked with affection about his son whom he described as a Christian first who was devoted to family and country, and was kind to a fault. He became a Marine at the age of 18 but continued to "walk the walk," held in high esteem by his fellow Marines who called him "holy man" and considered him their religious leader because of his quiet yet strong faith.

American first ... reporter second. Are the MSM more interested in getting the sensationalism ... "If it bleeds, it leads" ... or following an agenda ... or will they show they care about America and her citizens? The AP appears to have given its answer.

Meanwhile, an American hero's family mourns, that sadness intensified by the actions of the media.

Our prayers and gratitude go out to the Bernard family for their extreme sacrifice in the war on terrorism and the fight to preserve the freedoms we enjoy here in this country. May God bless and watch over them.

Semper Fi.

Howard Dean defended Van Jones

From David Horowitz's Newsreal:
On Fox News Sunday today former Vermont Governor Howard Dean stepped up to the plate to defend President Barack Obama’s former Green Jobs Czar Van Jones.
Interesting....

Glenn Beck responds to Van Jones' resignation

Conservative radio and Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck saw something wrong with the "czar" system that the Democrat Obama administration was using to surround itself with unvetted "czars" -- those in charge of a growing number of agencies. He began to research and ask questions and discovered Barack Obama had surrounded himself with some very left-leaning radicals.

One of those whose past began to raise eyebrows when his background was uncovered was Van Jones, the so-called "Green Jobs Czar" hired by Obama. Jones reportedly was a self-avowed communist and 9/11 "truther" -- those who believe the U.S. Government including former President George W. Bush were responsible for the 9/11 terrorism attacks on this country.

Van Jones resigned over the holiday weekend, in the middle of the night. Glenn Beck's statement on the resignation is on his website:
The American people stood up and demanded answers. Instead of providing them, the Administration had Jones resign under cover of darkness. I continue to be amazed by the power of everyday Americans to initiate change in our government through honest questioning, and judging by the other radicals in the administration, I expect that questioning to continue for the foreseeable future.
How many other people who are un-American may surround Obama? Glenn Beck and others continue to research.

A trip back in history on the Cass Railroad ... West Virginia

Take a ride back in history when lumber was king! Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers excursions that transport you back in time to relive an era when steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life. Trips to Cass are filled with rich histories of the past, unparalleled views of a vast wilderness area, and close-up encounters with the sights and sounds of original steam-driven locomotives.

The town of Cass remains relatively unchanged. The restored company houses now rented as vacation cottages, add to the charm and atmosphere of the town. From the company store and museum to the train depot, you'll find an abundance of things to do prior to your departure on the historic Cass Railroad.

The Cass Scenic Railroad is the same line built in 1901 to haul lumber to the mill in Cass. The locomotives are the same Shay locomotives used in Cass, and in the rainforests of British Columbia for more than a half-century. Many of the passenger cars are old logging flat-cars that have been refurbished.
Once you board the train, the real excitement begins! The great pistons of the carefully restored Shay locomotive will start pulsing, driven by hundreds of pounds of steam pressure. The shaft begins turning, the wheels find traction, and the locomotive begins to move. With thick, black smoke belching from its stack, the train pulls away from the station, passing the water tower from which the locomotive tanks are filled. As the train rounds the curve up Leatherbark Creek, you'll pass the Cass Shop, where the locomotives are serviced and repaired, and a graveyard of antiquated but fascinating equipment on sidetracks.

As the pressure builds, the locomotive is driven at full steam, and the laborious journey up the mountain toward the two switchbacks begin. The loud huff of the stack, the clanking of gears and pistons, the furious scream of the whistle at the crossings, and the ever present clackety-clack of the rails will indeed make you feel as if you have been transported back in time. The train soon passes through the first switchback, reverses up a steep grade, and ascends to the second switchback where the process is repeated, and then finally into open fields and Whittaker Station. The switchback process allows the train to gain quick altitude, and in this instance, the train is traversing a grade of up to 11 percent, or 11 feet in altitude for each 100 feet of track. A 2 percent grade on conventional railroads is considered steep!

Dress warmly for high elevations! Except for The Leatherbark Car and cabooses, the cars are unheated.

Breaking: Van Jones resigns

The Obama administration's "Green Job Czar," controversial Democrat Van Jones, has resigned after research uncovered his ties to communism and 9/11 "truthers" along with many radical statements made over the years.

Major networks ignored the mounting evidence showing Van Jones' radical background and the fact he was not vetted yet held a position close within the White House. Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck conducted exhaustive research on Van Jones as did Fox News while the major networks and other cable news networks were silent.

Today Van Jones has resigned, and research will continue to discover the backgrounds of others with questionable backgrounds who surround President Barack Obama.

More at National Review.

Also from David Horowitz: Van Jones quits in the middle of the night.

Sarah Palin drives the liberals crazy

She's the lady the liberals love to hate ... but Sarah Palin is the lady many conservatives embrace.

And my post earlier today about her possibly leading the Tea Party Express into Washington, DC, on September 12 caught the attention of the Huffington Post's "Sarah Palin" watch. I didn't even know such a thing existed but it's all things negative they can find about Alaska's Sarah Palin.

All the more reason for this member of Team Sarah to stand in solidarity with the lady.

Virginia Republicans lead by double digits ... Dem bloggers gloomy

With the latest SurveyUSA poll showing all three Virginia Republican candidates leading by double digits, Democrats have taken a kick to the gut, realizing the Washington Post hit on Bob McDonnell did not work.

Blue Weeds' post titled "Gloomy Poll for Virginia Democrats" pulled me over to see what was the Democrat reaction:
Going into Labor Day weekend this poll shows a looming disaster for Virginia Democrats. SurveyUSA is a reputable pollster, and its post-thesis data shows McDonnell largely undamaged by the controversy and all three statewide Republican candidates with considerable leads in their respective races.
Ouch ... ouch ... ouch.

But it's not over ... it's long from over. Never, never, never ever stop looking over your shoulder until you cross that finish line on Election Day or, in the words of Del. Chris Saxman, run like your tail's on fire. Don't stop, don't slow down, just do it!

A poll with good numbers at Labor Day helps tremendously ... but Republicans need to remember to not ... slow ... down.

Election Day is Nov. 3. We can rest on Nov. 4.

Will Sarah Palin lead the Tea Party Express into DC?

The Tea Party Express caravan left California on Friday, August 28, and has stopped at tea parties all across the nation on its way to Washington, DC, for the huge 9/12 March on Washington.

Will Sarah Palin lead the Tea Party Express into DC? She would be a great ambassador to have on board, and she would certainly rally the crowd of thousands expected at the Capitol. From the Tea Party Express blog:
WILL PALIN LEAD THE TEA PARTY EXPRESS INTO DC?

Fox News Channel and CNN have issued reports about the popularity of Gov. Sarah Palin at our Tea Party Express rallies. Members of the press have therefore asked whether or not we've invited Gov. Palin to participate in this effort, and I wanted to give you the inside scoop on this topic.

We have indeed invited Gov. Palin to join us for as long of the tour as she would like - whether that would mean speaking at a rally or riding along the tour bus for part of the way.

And Governor Palin has responded with gratitude and appreciation. She loves what all of you are doing in supporting this tea party movement and really wants to stand with you. Right now her schedule does not permit her to make it to any of our rallies before September 12th. We've left open the invitation and encouraged her to try to find a way to make it to at least one rally, and we have offered to be as accomodating as possible to make it possible for her to be at least one rally. Trust us, the crowds we have encountered would love to hear from Gov. Palin at one of our rallies.

We have been some of the greatest champions of Gov. Sarah Palin's involvement on the political scene. During the 2008 campaign we broadcast television ads specifically promoting Palin's slot on the GOP ticket (view here) and then after she was trashed following the election we rallied Americans to extend their "thanks" on Thanksgiving Day (view here).

WHO ELSE WILL BE IN DC ON SEPTEMBER 12?

6 buses from Valley heading to 9/12 March on Washington

The sleeping giant has been awakened ... and the giant will roar in Washington, DC, on September 12 as thousands of Americans converge in the nation's capital.

Included in those numbers will be six buses carrying citizens from the Shenandoah Valley ... high school and college students, working parents, health professionals, retired folks. One 83-year-old man said he is going to walk every step of the way at the rally.

No AstroTurf here ... everyone is paying their own way to ride the bus. Most have never done anything like this before. This is truly a movement of We the People.

The Daily News Record carried the information about the bus trip in Saturday's newspaper.

The Waynesboro News Virginian carried a story about it earlier in the week.

Bloggers are going ... we will be recording what we see and hear.

"McDonnell thesis fracas not hurting Republican's lead"

So says the Northern Virginia Daily in an article by Garren Shipley which notes that Democrat Creigh Deeds is still trailing in the polls. Mr. Shipley notes:
Bob McDonnell's 1989 master's thesis is apparently no "macaca."

The former Virginia attorney general and Republican gubernatorial candidate continues to hold a wide lead over Democratic nominee Creigh Deeds, 49 percent to 39 percent, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports released Wednesday.

With "leaners" included -- voters who initially say they're undecided but pick a candidate when pressed a second time -- McDonnell picks up 51 percent of the vote, while Deeds gets 42 percent.

The poll is the first to be done since reports about McDonnell's controversial 1989 master's thesis appeared on Sunday.
Liberals will have to go back to the Democrat play book because it looks like this one isn't going to take ... which also puts egg on the face of the Washington Post that tried so hard to duplicate their "macaca" glory.

When the story of Bob McDonnell's thesis broke earlier this week, he spent 90 minutes on a phone conference with the media, answering any and all questions from them in a calm manner and noting that some of his views had changed in 20 years. Creigh Deeds admitted that his views have changed over the years, too.

Now compare that to Sonia Sotomayor's comments in the past ... yes, the lady who was just voted onto the Supreme Court. Powerline has the details.

Meanwhile, a new Survey USA poll is showing Bob McDonnell up by 12% over Creigh Deeds ... this after the entire thesis debacle.

Conservative bloggers immediately began reacting to the poll numbers:

- DJ McGuire at Right-Wing Liberal with, Well, so much for that set of plans
- Shaun Kenney has McDonnell 54, Deeds 42
- Jim Hoeft at Bearing Drift has McDonnell by 12 - GOP rolling
- Jim Riley at Virginia Virtucon with, Second consecutive post-thesis poll shows no damage to McDonnell
- Mike at Write Side of My Brain has Creigh Deeds on the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything
- Carl Kilo at Spark It Up with The Result of Creigh Deeds' Caca - Thesis? Bob McDonnell Up by 12
- Fishersville Mike has rounded up everyone at Strictly VA with Survey USA: McDonnell up by 12

New Bob McDonnell ad ... "Leadership"

~McDonnell Up with New Positive Television Ad "Leadership"~

Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Attorney General of Virginia, is expanding his general election television advertising today. In his latest ad, "Leadership" McDonnell continues to highlight his positive message of new jobs and more opportunities all across Virginia.

The spot will begin airing today in the Norfolk/Richmond/Roanoke/Harrisonburg/Tri-Cities/and Charlottesville markets.

In " Leadership" Bob McDonnell Says:

Bob McDonnell: An air force officer and working mom raised me in this middle class neighborhood.

Rachel McDonnell: Hey dad!

Cailin McDonnell: See you at Grandpa's!

Bob: Ok, see you there girls. In the army I earned a business degree in night school. And got my law degree on the GI bill.

Jeanine McDonnell: The Army taught us leadership dad.

Bob: Sure did, leadership makes a difference.

Sean McDonnell: Dad how about a game?

Bob: You're on! I've outlined plans to grow the economy and create jobs, make college more affordable and accessible for Virginians, and enact bipartisan solutions for transportation. After all, we face the same challenges that you do.

"We're heading your way ..."

So wrote a reader from North Carolina today, a gentleman I have never met, but who emailed several weeks ago to say they were traveling to the SWAC area for Labor Day weekend and he had read on my blog about various places he wanted to visit.

They plan to stay in Staunton for the weekend, and start with a visit to Polyface Natural Food Farm in Swoope on Friday while taking in a Shakespeare play that night. Saturday they will check out the Dayton Farmers Market and back to the Sheakespeare Theater that evening, and today he asked for additional places to visit since he had hoped to visit the Middlebrook General Store but it is currently closed. On Sunday they are exploring Grand Caverns. I have emailed other great places to check out and included my favorite downtown Staunton restaurants.

This is a great place to visit ... the mountains, the Valley, the history, the heritage.... There's a touch of fall in the air ... warm days and cool nights. I'm sure they will leave a little piece of their hearts in the Shenandoah Valley when they return home.

It's almost Fall in the Valley....

"I pledge to be a servant to the president...."

Gag. A servant? To the president?

Can you believe the "I Pledge" ad that is currently making the rounds? Watch it here at Michelle Malkin's blog. She writes in her column, Obama’s classroom campaign: No junior lobbyist left behind:
“ABC” stands for All Barack’s Children. On September 8, young students across the country will be watching television. Yes, they’ll be parked in front of the boob tube and computer screens watching President Obama’s address on education.
Parents in droves are complaining to school systems ... others are vowing to keep their children out of school that day.

Day by day, I feel as if we're being indoctrinated into the Obama Nation.

The good part is that it has awakened a sleeping nation of people who are determined to protect their freedoms and not let their country be socialized by what is going on from the Obama Administration and the Democrats who rule Washington, D.C.

With these types of jam-it-down-their-throats tactics going on, I expect the home school movement and private schools to begin to grow again as parents pull children out of public schools. And a warning to those school choice parents: expect to be on the radical left's hit list. You are independent thinkers ... you must be indoctrinated.

Examiner and others begin "macaca watch" on WaPost

Michael Barone at the Washington Examiner asks the question on many lips: "Is the Washington Post trying to 'macaca' Bob McDonnell?" Liberal bloggers pile on with hysteria while digging through a 20-year-old thesis and the Washington Post is a willing lapdog. Mr. Barone reminds Virginia voters:
In the 2006 campaign season the Washington Post ran more than a dozen front-page stories on Senator George Allen’s reference, at an August 11 campaign stop almost 400 miles from Washington, to an opposition campaign staffer as “Macaca.” One of these stories, perhaps, had enough news value to be worthy of the front page; the others were placed there with the obvious intent of defeating Allen and electing his Democratic opponent Jim Webb, who did indeed win by a 50%-49% margin.

Now there’s a campaign on for governor of Virginia, and the news editors of the Post seem to be using their front page once again to defeat the Republican candidate, Bob McDonnell, and elect Democrat Creigh Deeds. To provide a fair perspective, we’ll start a Macaca watch, to list stories which make the front page of the Post not on the basis of news value but solely and obviously to defeat the Republican candidate.
[emphasis added]
Even Human Events has noted the WaPo's attack, writing WaPo opens Jihad again McDonnell, in which reporter Christian Toto asks, "Has the Washington Post found its new 'macaca,' the journalistic storyline to steer Virginia voters away from a GOP candidate?" He continues:
Can the Post serve as a political kingmaker again for the Old Dominion State? Or will a feisty alternative media rise up to stop any attempts to turn a college assignment into a campaign killer? And if so, why didn’t the paper pull out all the stops regarding another candidate’s past?

If memory serves, a Democrat Senator running for the highest office in the land last year admitted to doing cocaine in his youth, spent 20 years worshiping with an anti-American, anti-Israel reverend, had that very same reverend officiate his wedding and started his political career at the home of an unrepentant terrorist?

Turns out old news is only old when it applies to one particular party, or The One.
...
The Post, as well as other mainstream outlets, weren’t eager to cover First Lady Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis in which she suggested she wasn’t comfortable being a black person on campus. Nor did the media dig to uncover President Obama’s Columbia college thesis.
An excellent piece calling the WaPo on its hypocrisy was posted by Mike at The Write Side of My Brain ... You can’t expect the Washington Post to still believe something they wrote…eleven weeks ago (but they can hold Bob McDonnell to something he wrote 20 years ago).

Shaun Kenney has been on top of this story, noting in Geraghty: Draft McDonnell down, push Deeds up that the WaPo has a reason for their attacks on McDonnell:
The answer for the sudden focus on Bob McDonnell can be found in five numbers: 15, 14, 8, 8, 15. That’s the margin of McDonnell’s lead in the last five polls in the state.
Proof that the WaPo is more interested in a political agenda than issues can be found in today's edition: two stories about Bob McDonnell's thesis while omitting the Associated Press article about Bob McDonnell's Tuesday visit to Alexandria to discuss increasing in-classroom funding for Virginia students.

Yet, Bob McDonnell is up by 9 points after WaPo hit piece in a brand new Rasmussen poll, as noted by Jason Kenney at Bearing Drift.

Jerry Fuhrman at From On High writes They're at it again, noting, "The Washington Post's effort to macaca Bob McDonnell continues apace this morning. This time columnist Ruth Marcus was ordered to attack the GOP candidate for governor for having written something decades ago about something that is, in fact, absolutely inconsequential."

Jim Hoeft at Bearing Drift declares WaPO hypocrisy hits a new high - is Jeff Schapiro a close second and says, "The bottom line is this is a manufactured story by the newspaper media."

Jim Riley at Virginia Virtucon sat in on the McDonnell media conference call on Monday and posted Deeds' October Surprise fizzles before September ... Media left scrambling to find something other than issues to cover. In it he wrote:
With McDonnell coming across as calm and rational on yesterday’s call and the WashPo reporting that he is poised to grab the backing of Gov. Timmy!’s biggest '05 donor, it appears that their fallback position now is to try and weaken McDonnell among conservatives.
Brian Kirwin at Bearing Drift out-tweeted the Richmond Times-Dispatch's Jeff Schapiro:
RTDSchapiro#vagov McD trying to change subject? Today talks up education; tomorrow, opposition to card-check.

BrianKirwin@RTDSchapiro McDonnell talking about issues isn’t changing subjects. Deeds doing so would be.
Jane at Bearing Drift tweeted:
The people at the Washington Post, with ethics that would let them plan this (http://bit.ly/U6Fxu), look down their noses at Bob McDonnell. I’m just sayin.’
Keeping the story alive is the post from Fishersville Mike in which he interjects trademark humor while questioning the WaPo's desire to keep a dead story going by asking:
Why no one appeared to defend McDonnell on the Chris Matthews show? Is it because no one really watches the show? More people would watch Glenn Beck clear his throat?
84 Rules writes, Left-Leaning Washington Post Goes After Bob McDonnell. Bob Kirchman at The Journey writes This is Deeds Country: A Beltway Runs Around It, saying:
The Washington Post has about as much business picking the Governor of Virginia as I do picking the Prime Minister of France!
Greg at Black Velvet Bruce Li thinks lagging Dem support and campaign contributions may have had something to do with the WaPo teaming up with Deeds for what may be a too-early-in-the-game swat at McDonnell:
I’ll be very interested to see Deeds’ campaign finance report ending August 31. If that report shows that a significant portion of his money showed up in the last few days and the campaign wasn’t getting contributions to speak of in late July through mid-August, that will confirm this hypothesis. We’ll know that Deeds’ big strategic play for the election cycle had to be pissed away early in order to financially rescue his campaign. Very likely, he will have fired all of what he thinks is his most important political ammunition, praying that any lingering effects might get him over the top. Strategy-wise, that’s just plain dumb.
...
To see [Deeds] plucking out of the archives Bob McDonnell’s twenty year old thesis papers when Deeds’ own papers are as strangely unavailable, as are Barack Obama’s, really has to make me wonder whether this early attack is a sign of desperation more than part of a real campaign strategy.
Ouch.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Washington Post to look into past writings from Creigh Deeds or to do an indepth study of his voting record. And don't wait for them to demand accountability from Barack Obama who refuses to release his college thesis from Columbia University or his academic records from Occidental College, Columbia University or Harvard Law School.

Media hypocrisy rears its ugly head once again.

Update 9/3/09: Meanwhile, Bob McDonnell continues visiting the citizens of Virginia carrying his message while talking jobs and the economy in Chesterfield. Creigh Deeds, instead of putting forth his ideas to help Virginians, is sharpening his focus on the McDonnell thesis. Bob McDonnell is looking forward ... while Creigh Deeds is looking two decades behind.

Jim Riley asks, Will Weymouth and Brauchli Step In Once Again To Stop Those Ethically Challenged At The WashPo?, and writes:
If you’re the Washington Post and you have a lefty like Bill Moyers calling you out for being ethically challenged, you know that a line has been crossed. That’s right, the very same WashPo that not even 2 months ago was caught red-handed in a “pay-to-say” scandal where lobbyists would cough up between $25K and $250K to cozy up with WashPo editors, writers and Obama Admin. officials all of a sudden wants Virginians to believe that they’re looking out for us via their increasingly screechy and desperate rants against Bob McDonnell based upon a 20-year old thesis.
It gets better so be sure to read the entire post.

NV: "Locals to join march on Capitol"

The response to the 9/12 March on Washington has been overwhelming, far better than organizers ever expected, and reporter Bob Stuart at the Waynesboro News Virginian picked up on the excitement:
This time, the sign-wavers also are carrying second mortgages, holding down middle-class jobs and tuning in to Rush Limbaugh rather than Buffalo Springfield.

Their rallying cry, “Slow government spending,” doesn’t carry the same ring as, say, “Stop the war.” Still, Lynn Mitchell is inspired.

“In my lifetime I have never seen the American people this engaged in their government or what their government is doing,” said Lynn Mitchell, of Augusta County, a longtime Republican activist.

Mitchell is helping to organize a Sept. 12 trip to Washington to protest government spending, a spin-off of the tea party gatherings held earlier this year. Mitchell said some 200 Shenandoah Valley people are expected to travel to the Capitol.

Five buses have been lined up to pick up the protesters starting in Staunton and ending in Strasburg, according to Suzanne Curran, of Shenandoah County, another organizer of the area contingent. Curran said it is possible a sixth bus will be needed.

“The sleeping giant is going to Washington on Sept. 12,” Mitchell said.
...
Curran said older people fear that the country they have lived in is no more while younger people are saying “I want to live my life in the country like my parents did.”

Thus far, the big names expected to speak at the event include Armey and actor Stephen Baldwin.

Curran said they hope to remind Congress what being a representative means.

“People are speaking out,” she said, “because no one is speaking for them.”

Taste of fall in the Shenandoah Valley

We have had gorgeous weather in the Shenandoah Valley this week with daytime highs in the 70s and low humidity. Monday night's low in the 50s will give way to a low in the 40s Tuesday night ... a taste of the fall weather to come. After spending a sultry weekend in Richmond, it is nice to be home with such enjoyable weather.

The drone of circadas and crickets can be heard in the warmth of the day as some early leaves are beginning to fall from locust and bass trees, and tree frogs can be heard in the evenings as the sun goes down. Our neighbor is busy baling hay.

It is late summer in the Valley....

WSJ: "Health-care anger has deeper roots"

The Wall Street Journal sums up the frustration that has erupted into tea parties nationwide in two sentences:
Recent town-hall uproars weren't just about health care. They were also eruptions of concern that the government is taking on too much at once.
That, in a nutshell, is why Americans are upset. Look for more protests as representatives continue to ignore their constituents.

Ahhh, hypocritical libs. Mike succinctly says it all....

Harrisonburg ChicFilA has Wi-Fi

A frequent place to eat in Harrisonburg is ChicFilA so we were thrilled when they got WiFi. The folks who own this franchise are very nice, very involved in the community, and have a nice restaurant that, in the tradition of ChicFilA, is not open on Sundays. I have called it the Ukrop's of fast food restaurants.

Now, while grabbing that sandwich or chicken nuggets or lemonade, you can take your laptop and check email or blog or whatever. Nice.

Thousands turn out as Tea Party Express makes its way to D.C.

~Shenandoah Valley has filled 4 buses~

It's 10:06 pm on the East Coast and 7:06 pm in Flagstaff, Arizona ... and thousands of tea party patriots are live on Fox News Channel's Greta Van Sustern show as correspondent Griff Jenkins talks with attendees and listens as they chant, "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!"

The Tea Party Express is making its way to Washington, DC, for the huge September 12 rally at the Capitol, stopping at towns and cities along the way as momentum builds against nationalized health care.

They are not AstroTurf and they are not typical protesters. Most have never protested anything before in their lives but feel strongly that they are losing their country, their freedoms are being taken away, and their elected representatives are not representing them.

How many people will show up in DC on September 12? Who knows? But we have FOUR buses filled going from the Shenandoah Valley and have now reserved a fifth. A caller to Sean Hannity's radio show today said they had two buses coming from his area of Georgia and, he said, 95% of those people had never protested before.

Same with the Valley buses. Most of the people have not protested in the past but they are paying $35 to go to the Nation's Capital ... all ages and socio-economic groups -- from high school and college students to working parents to professionals to doctors and dentists to retired folks.

This is truly an American movement of We the People. It is amazing to hear the stories as we talk with them, and that will be my focus on the bus going to DC ... to get the individual stories of those who will join with tens of thousands of other patriots to stand up and be heard.

The sleeping giant has been awakened and will roar on September 12. It will be an historic day in American history.

See you in D.C.!
