Military demands info on soldiers' private guns

Soldiers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, were alarmed when a memo was circulated demanding they turn in information about their private weapons, according to World Net Daily:

The original order was issued on the letterhead of Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment and said effective March 11, any soldier with a "privately owned weapon" was required to submit the information, along with any information about any concealed carry permit the soldier may have, and what state issued the permit.

One soldier objected to the order and commented:
"It just seems a little coincidental to me that within 90 days the most anti-firearm president in history is inaugurated, some of the nastiest anti-firearm laws are put on the table in Washington, and then the Army comes around wanting what amounts to a registration on all firearms, even if they are off post, and doesn't provide any reason or purpose as to why," the soldier said.
A check of Snopes confirmed the story but then Snopes veered off into opinion by saying that " ... it is not true, as intimidated in the email message reproduced above, that the memo was connected to some nefarious plot by the Obama administration to disarm America, beginning with its soldiers."

How does Snopes know that, and why are they interjecting opinion when they should only report fact?

H/T to bly

Many of us blogged on this very topic pre election about the wool be pulled over us. You can bet this is a hot topic with Wayne and friends at the current NRA Anual Meeting and Convention which startesd yesterday in Phoenix, AZ.

Free advise, go to the nearest gun dealer and buy everything that you can afford not to mention learning how to make your own bullets if you don't already have that knowledge.

This was blogged throughout the gunblog sphere. The CO acted beyond his authority. There had been a sudden increase in murders/suicides/negligence and the Co wanted to control, somehow, firearm access to his troops.

This didn't happen because of Obama. It happened because of a stupid CO.

It was reversed by higher command.
