Bob McDonnell, GOP candidate for Governor, addresses the Republican Round-Up crowd as Linwood Cobb (7th District Chair) and Rep. and Mrs. Eric Cantor look on.

2009 ... Bob McDonnell and Ken Cuccinelli.

My husband came home from the 2004 Republican Advance with an admiration for Bob McDonnell who was going into his 2005 campaign for Attorney General.

Always the wind beneath my political wings, SWAC Husband was impressed that Mr. McDonnell actually remembered his name not only at the Advance but at every other event after that. Used to politicians not knowing him since he's in the background, he was amazed and, no, a staffer was not nearby whispering the name in Mr. McDonnell's ear.

SWAC Husband was in complete support as I volunteered for that campaign, running all over Augusta County, working GOP HQs, manning the polls, and then, on the morning after Election Day, when the phone rang asking that I get to the Government Center to watch the counting of the local ballots in what would prove to be an extremely close race. I ended up as a witness at the December recount that saw Bob McDonnell prevail as the new AG.

It's amazing how much difference it makes when your husband is totally on-board with a candidate. SWAC Husband was impressed with Mr. McDonnell's ease talking with folks, with his military background, his family, and with his knowledge and leadership skills in the General Assembly ... and was happy to see me volunteer on that campaign.

All those attributes he saw years ago in Bob McDonnell came through at Saturday's Republican Round-Up. Comfortably standing on stage in front of thousands of people, Mr. McDonnell was at ease as he shared his vision for the future of Virginia, thanking volunteers for their hard work, and asking all to turn out on Election Day to vote in our Republican team.

Could there be a Republican sweep on November 3? We're all working to make it happen.
