Shooting on Blue Ridge Parkway ... manhunt underway

Late Monday night news started circulating that a manhunt was under way on the Blue Ridge Parkway as authorities searched for a gunman south of Afton Mountain. With two victims wounded by gun fire and the gunman still at large, the Parkway is blocked to traffic between mile markers 0-13.

Officers from local units (Nelson and Augusta) as well as state police and FBI are on the case.

Morning found little new information. The Waynesboro News Virginian's huge front page top-of-the-fold headline read: 3 SHOT NEAR MILE MARKER 10 ... TERROR ON PARKWAY."
Three people were shot Monday night at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 10 miles south of Afton Mountain, a law enforcement official close to the investigation said.

At about 8 p.m., officers rushed to Rockpoint Overlook at mile marker 10 on the scenic byway.

Two victims were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center and a third was being sought by rescuers, authorities said.

Virginia State Police blocked off the Parkway and searched for a suspect authorities described as a white man with long gray hair, driving a red car. The suspect remained at large at 11:30 p.m.
Nelson County Life news also kept up with the drama throughout the night and is updating as new information becomes available.

At this time it appears to be one shooter and two victims and may possibly be domestic violence. The search continues Tuesday morning.
