~Governor McDonnell Sets Date for Special Elections in Two Virginia House Districts~
--Special elections in 26th and 27th Districts--
RICHMOND – Governor Bob McDonnell has set Tuesday, June 15, 2010, as the date of a special election to fill vacancies in the 26th and 27th House of Delegates Districts. Voters will be selecting successors to Delegate Matt Lohr in the 26th District, and Delegate Sam Nixon in the 27th. Both have accepted appointments to serve in the McDonnell Administration.
Governor McDonnell remarked, “All Virginians will benefit from having two great public servants like Matt Lohr and Sam Nixon serving in our Administration. They were exceptional representatives of the citizens of their districts, and I know they will be missed. It is important we move quickly to fill these vacancies in order to ensure that voters in Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley have effective representation in Richmond. Accordingly, I have called for a special election to be held on Tuesday, June 15th.”
The 26th House District includes the City of Harrisonburg and northern portions of Rockingham County. The 27th House District consists of parts of Chesterfield County. The deadline for candidates to file to run in the 26th or 27th District seats is Friday, May 14, 2010, at 5:00 p.m.
