10 years ago today ... George W. Bush sworn in as 43rd President of the U.S.

This work continues. This story goes on."

Ten years ago today, President George W. Bush was sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States of America.

As he stood on the steps of our nation's Capitol, President Bush told a story: "It is the American story -— a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals. The grandest of these ideals is an unfolding American promise that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was ever born."

President Bush pledged to live and lead by enduring principles: freedom is universal; all life is precious; to whom much is given, much is required; and results matter. These principles guided his Presidency and shaped each decision he made in office. Now they are the foundation of the ongoing work of the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the Bush Institute.

Watch President Bush's first inaugural video, view photos from that day, read his speech, and learn how the Bush Center is taking its place in this long and enduring story of America and her guiding principles.
