Wintry evening ... 10" of snow and still coming down in Valley ... schools closed Thursday

It's a snowman/snowball-making snow ... heavy and wet.
The Subaru sits under the river birch ready to go....

After being plunged into darkness for two hours when the electricity went out at 4:35, it came on briefly for 20 minutes but now we're in darkness again. Measuring on the deck, we have 10" of snow in our corner of Augusta County which falls dead center in what www.WxRisk.com predicted. They had forecast that the Shenandoah Valley would be "hammered" with 6-12" of heavy snow. Ding, ding, ding. Thanks to my friend Debbie in Richmond for tuning me in to them because it helped us be prepared for this major snowstorm.

Now we're just waiting for Shenandoah Valley Electric Co-Op to get the power back on....

UPDATE: Authorities are asking motorists to stay off the roads.  Numerous wrecks have been reported on the interstates and other roadways. Visibility on I-64 and Rt. 250 over Afton Mountain is poor and friends coming home from work in Charlottesville have reported on the extremely poor road conditions.

The Augusta County Government Center closed early today and the Board of Supervisors meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.

Most SWAC area schools are closed Thursday including Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro public schools as well as Grace Christian and Stuart Hall.
