Heavy snow in Shenandoah Valley ... electricity out & still snowing

January 26, 2011, snowstorm in Shenandoah Valley.
"Walking in a Winter Wonderland."

If it's snowing, we have to bake. Chocolate chip cookies for all!

Heavy snow began falling in the central Shenandoah Valley shortly before noon today and is putting down precipitation at the rate of over an inch an hour. By 4:30 we had 6" of snow on the ground.

At 4:35, our electricity went out. Thankfully, the woodstove is cranking out the heat, and we have lanterns, flashlights, and candles ready. The laptop computer is running off a battery that will last for a while. Darkness is already creeping in....

The snow is a heavy, wet snow that is coating tree limbs and power lines. Limbs are drooping to the ground and that is probably what happened to our electricity.

It's a beautiful winter wonderland out there with the snowstorm many have been waiting for ... white flakes falling so heavy that it obscures the ridge behind the house.

We'll be cooking dinner on the woodstove tonight and playing board games. One thing is for sure ... when the electricity goes out, life becomes a lot simpler and families bond.... Enjoy the snow. I'll be signing off for now ... don't want to burn up the battery because we don't know how long the blackout will last. Enjoy!

It's winter in the Shenandoah Valley....
