Many in Staunton, Virginia, will pause this afternoon to pay respects to retired Justice George Cochran, 98, who passed away at his home on Saturday. The service is scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm at historic Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Staunton.
Besides serving on the Virginia Supreme Court from 1969 until 1987, he served as an elected official in the House of Delegates from 1948 until 1966 and the State Senate until 1968. He was also a founder and former chairman of the Frontier Culture Museum located in Staunton. While he touched many lives along his life's path, the Frontier Culture Museum was where he and I crossed paths.
As a current board member, I have much respect for one of the founders who saw the vision become reality and then continued to serve, encouraging the growth of what has become a world-known hands-on teaching museum. As a home school family, my children and I appreciated the FCM's ability to teach in an outdoor setting and in a way that was interesting to students and parents alike.
My respects and condolences to the Cochran family as they lay their husband, father, and patriarch to rest.
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' --Matthew 25:21
