From The Fox Nation comes this disturbing news:
John Whitehead, founder of the Institute, says many people were scheduled to speak at the 2008 Butte High School graduation. Some chose serious subjects, others humor, he says.Mr. Whitehead added:
"Renee Griffith, who is a Christian, wanted to mention Christ once and mention God once in one of her very short remarks, and the school said she couldn't do it," he explains. "She [insisted she] wanted to do it, so then they actually removed her from the graduation ceremony and did not allow her to speak."
According to a Rutherford press release, the co-valedictorian was ordered to replace two phrases in her speech -- "sharing Christ" and "lived with a purpose from God with a passionate love for Him" -- with the following phrases: "sharing my faith" and "lived with a purpose, a purpose derived from my faith and based on a love of mankind."
Whitehead maintains that students have constitutional rights -- but warns that "if we don't begin protecting the right to free speech in the schools, we are going to lose the right to speak entirely."Mr. Whitehead's words bring to mind the famous quote from German anti-Nazi activist Pastor Martin Niemöller:
In Germany they first came for the Communists,'Nuff said.
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

What goes around comes around. These same christain zealots who are the first to point out the evils of other religions and demand that they should not be allowed to operate or be banned, have reaped what they have sown.
Draegn's post demonstrates the ignorance that has led us to this point. I haven't heard mainstream "christains" (as Draegn calls us) call for the banning of any other religion. Christianity is integral to this nation's government and history. That is fact, not opinion. Leftists have declared war on Christianity. Unfortunately for those who worship the state, they cannot steal our faith.

Edgy,
Without fail, I can approach any group of christians in Harrisonburg or the county and there will be at least one who will say that I need to change my ways, go to church, pray, believe, etc.. or I will burn.
When did these people become omniscient to know what god has planned for me? There are so many people in this area that cry communist, atheist, satanist because one is not a christian. Listen to the "McCarthy Era Lady" on Candid Comment sometime.
What would happen in your church if you stood up and suggested that you allow a non-christian group to use your building? Do you think that a voodoo group would be allowed to function in Harrisonburg?
If I recall Thomas Jefferson wrote his own bible. Would you say that the christianity of Jefferson's time is the same as today? I think not.
I promise you that I am not a leftist.
