"A world-class entrance to Shenandoah National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, Waynesboro & the Valley"

Sketching courtesy of Kirchman Studio

Afton Mountain ... that crossroads of I-64, Rt. 250, the Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway and entrance to the Shenandoah Valley ... a location that could be the crown jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Unfortunately, it has fallen into ruin over the years as buildings age, businesses close, and burned-out structures are left to crumble.

Many have talked about a renovation of this area and joined in the conversation about what to do with Afton. Now Bob over at The Journey has put his professional skills to work and sketched out his dream of a world-class entrance to Shenandoah National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Waynesboro, and the Valley.

Beautiful!

He has even included "cobblestones and cafes" and has utilized the current foundations to minimize site preparation. Bob offers the possibilities of what could be:

"So imagine the fog lifting one morning to reveal a new 'Village at Afton.' A bit of Tyrolean culture in Rockfish Gap. It is not so out of the question."
Imagine, indeed. It would be nice to see this area transformed into a go-to destination for tourists, travelers, and locals.

Thanks, Bob, for sharing your ideas and sketches of the beautiful place that Afton could be.
