With the price of gasoline now standing at $91 a barrel, the gas price crunch has hit Virginia as gasoline is now at over $3.00 a gallon at many (most?) stations around the Commonwealth.
Reporter Mark Huffman with Consumer Affairs reports that prices are rising nationwide and lists the most expensive and less expensive.
The states with the most expensive gasoline today are:
* Hawaii ($3.705)
* Alaska ($3.578)
* California ($3.360)
* New York ($3.339)
* Connecticut ($3.306)
* Washington ($3.234)
* Illinois ($3.225)
* Oregon ($3.204)
* Maine ($3.179)
* Vermont ($3.176)
The states with the least expensive gasoline today are:
* Wyoming ($2.827)
* Colorado ($2.896)
* Missouri ($2.903)
* Idaho ($2.931)
* South Carolina ($2.937)
* Oklahoma ($2.963)
* Texas ($2.948)
* Mississippi ($2.952)
* Tennessee ($2.960)
* Arkansas ($2.969)
Virginia is not in the "lease expensive" category. Passing a 7-Eleven in Fishersville earlier this week, I noted their gas was $3.05. I heard this morning from a Valley resident who uses gasoline in his job who said he is going to have to raise the price of his services to cover that expense.
As home heating prices increase, it will cause a crunch for households throughout the Valley especially during the cold winter months, and especially for those fixed income families. This comes on the heels of public questions of whether gasoline will soon hit $100 a barrel.
