How was your Mother's Day?

How was your Mother's Day? Mine was wonderful as three generations of the family gathered to enjoy BBQ outdoors on an absolutely beautiful Richmond day. It was sunny and cool after a cold front went through the night before causing thunderstorms and rain, and knocking out the heat and humidity of Saturday.

We gathered at my parents' home in Midlothian with an easy, simple meal: crockpot BBQ, cole slaw, corn, baked beans, pasta salad, and garden salad. Since the weather was so nice, we ate outside at tables on the patio ... relaxing, talking, and bringing the Texas sister into the conversation on the speaker phone so we could all talk with her as she enjoyed her Mother's Day in Austin.

An abundance of flowers for Mom were on the table along with a flower cake from Ukrop's.

The winning dessert was a luscious, overwhelmingly decadent chocolate-chocolate cake my brother-in-law made which was iced with chocolate with a mocha chocolate cream between the layers, and truffles on top with hazel nuts coating the sides. It was yummy and rich and fulfilling. This bro-in-law is a whiz in the kitchen and the cake was yet another of the numerous offerings he has whipped up over the years.

Mother's Day 2009 ... it was a relaxing, wonderful day spent with family.
