Carter Mountain Orchard on Mother's Day 2011

Just down the road from Michie Tavern is the entrance to Carter Mountain Orchard. Follow the road to the top of the mountain ... and you'll be on top of the world! Since 1912, it has provided apples to the community. In apple season, it's pick-your-own, hay rides, and much more family fun on top of the mountain.

The decks looking west to the Blue Ridge Mountains offer picnic tables and a place to enjoy the view the goes on and on and on....

Besides the orchards, Carter Mountain has a huge vineyard.

SWAC Husband looks toward the west to find where I-64 crosses the mountains at Afton ... our way home.
Below is Charlottesville....
I-64 (upper center) heading toward Ivy, Crozet, and Afton.

Wow! The views are breath-taking.

Looking east toward the flat lands and Richmond.

Some of the thousands of apple trees that cover the top of the mountain along with grape vines. It was relatively quiet today but in apple season there are so many people on premises that it's difficult to find parking.
