August 28, 2010 ... conservatives to meet at Lincoln Memorial in D.C.

Uh-oh. Looks like Washington, DC, is going to be inundated with more than a million conservatives once again on August 28, 2010, because when Glenn Beck invites folks to join him, they come out big-time. Over the weekend 35,000 turned out to hear The Plan at The Villages in Florida ... and in April thousands throughout the country met for We Surround Them parties hosted by Glenn Beck through his Fox News television show.

Now the call has gone out from Mr. Beck for Americans to meet at the feet of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. to reveal a conservative platform to elected officials in both political parties.

Then he said something I do not agree with. He suggests that a third party be considered if those leaders do not listen.

I do not believe in a third party. I lived through 1992 and Ross Perot's splitting of the Republican Party that allowed Bill Clinton into office with less than 50% of the vote.

If we split that vote in 2012, it will allow Barack Obama a second term in the White House ... and I'm not sure America can survive a second term of Barack Obama.

I agree with much of what Mr. Beck says ... but not this.

Limbaugh has consistantly given the correct perspective on 'third parties.' They always effectively neuter the viewpoint they purport to support by splitting the vote.

The only way I can see Rush being wrong is if the third party were able to attract a lot of center-right Democrats who were disgusted with the very liberal national party. Simply pulling the Conservatives away from the Republican Party guarantees the Democrats win.

Truer words were never spoken.

The R party lost my loyalties with the nomination of John McCain. I refuse to enable a broken system, and fully agree with Beck that a third party is the alternative. I will not compromise my integrity with one more vote wasted by voting on something other than my convictions and principle. If more Americans voted this way, we'd have mass of parties, each keeping the other honest. As of now, we have a rigged, corrupt, and fixed 2-party system that produces the same outcomes regardless of which party is in office.

Yes, I remember the Perot fiasco. You are so right. I'm not even sure we will recover from 4 years of Obama. At the very least, it will take years if this health bill is passed.

I understand what you're saying, Dana ... I have been disappointed in GOP candidates, too. However, the attitude you have is what happened in 1992 ... and we ended up with eight years of Bill Clinton.

the revelution has started! ! !

If the vote was split, then why did Bob Dole lose in 1996? Bob Dole got only 1 more electoral vote than Bush did in 1992, and only 92,919 total more popular votes than Bush. Looks as if Clinton won the split votes in the 1996 race. The people that voted for Perot in 1992 either voted for Clinton in 1996 or stayed home. They did not vote for Dole. They were ready for an honest change... not like whats in office today.

They were fed up, with both sides, its happening again!

I'd hardly call integrity and "attitude" in regards to choosing the person who I want to represent me as the leader of the free world. And it's like I said, no matter who you send, you get the same results. So why would it really matter anyway, other than to have bragging rights that your team (D or R) won? I agree with Fed Up, it IS a revolution, and I'm glad to know where I stand in it. I refuse to compromise my integrity.

Honestly, the Limbaugh quote just sounds like rhetoric to me. He's a GOP hack as far as I'm concerned, so his opinion only goes but so far with me. As a third party supporter, the reason I vote third party is not because I'm bucking any system, but rather because I believe in the party platform and candidate I vote for. I'm not an independent either. I'm a Libertarian. I can't tell you how many conservatives voted for McCain b/c he was the "lesser of two evils." Well, the lesser of two evils is still evil. Sorry, but throwing out rhetoric to third party supporters isn't going to get them on board with the GOP or convince them that they are somehow "wrong" for voting third party. It's going to take a lot more than that by means of getting a true conservative on the GOP ballot, but that doesn't seem to be the direction of the party.

My husband and I have reservations for our camper for the Lincoln Memorial rally in August at Cherry Hill Park in D.C. If you have a camper or RV, join us and we can fill the park with 9/12ers. We are in North Georgia and plan to arrive on Thursday before to get settled in good. Email me at kich4952@comcast.net if you would like to join us. We could do a convoy!!

Can you please help clarify something for me and my husband regarding this event? My husband says that we are rallying there because it is the last day to rally outside the capital in D.C. due to a bill that got passed in Congress banning protesters outside the capital building. Is this true? Or is it just for Glenn Beck to reveal his Plan? Thank you!

BlueJeanBaby, I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question. Perhaps there's something at www.glennbeck.com.

Hi. I do not know for sure either about the bill being passed about demonstrators but I did see Glenn's show that he first mentioned the rally and he said that it may very well be the last time we are able to gather for one. So that led ME to believe that is the case. I couldn't let, possibly, my last opportunity to pass me by to stand up and be there. Join us if you can.

Well after a ton of laborious Internet research I came up with one article about it and only one. So whatever is going to happen regarding it isn't getting much news coverage anywhere.

Anywho here it is:

So, you suggest that we just blindly vote Republican? They run too many RINO's. After dealing with the RINO's in Minnesota (thank GOD for Bachmann being the exception and she's in my district. YAY!), I am tired of the either party.

The rally is being held on August 28th at the Lincoln Memorial because that is the same location and date of Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" Speech. Beck is attempting (bafflingly) to allude to that event in introducing his own 'Plan'.

If that does not strike you as inappropriate and seriously mis-guided, it should.

There is no such law banning any protests or public gatherings at the Memorial, the Capitol, or elsewhere in DC, nor will there be. No worries! This is the US. We pride ourselves on letting anyone say whatever he/she wants in public, whenever and where-ever and however poorly it suits them.

Why is it inappropriate and misguided to pay homage to a man who truly believed in freedom for all men?

I think Beck was saying it may be the last time because he believes we are slowly losing our freedoms; the DISCLOSE ACT rather strengthens that argument, 'dontchya think?'

I like the IDEA of a 3rd party, but the reality of it will give a win to the democrats :(
However, the repubs are no prize either - they seriously need a different superstar, as unfortunately Palin will only galzanize the dems even more,IMHO
