Cash Mob to hit Staunton Thursday

Staunton will have its very first "Cash Mob" this week. The craze that has been going around the country will take place Thursday night, July 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Darjeeling Cafe at 103 W. Beverley Street.

"Cash Mobs" sprang up during the recent poor economic conditions as a way to support local independent businesses in communities around the country.

These events are often passed along by Twitter or Facebook which results in a large gathering of those interested in helping the local economy by spending a little cash. Thursday they are asking that diners spend between $10 and $20 and, with any luck and a lot of spreading the message, organizers would like to see more than 100 people participate..

Staunton Downtown Development Association is doing its part in alerting the community as well as business people who have posted on Facebook.
