Augusta: Adult zoning ordinances passed by Planning Commission

At a public hearing Tuesday night, Augusta County's Planning Commission voted unanimously to pass the proposed adult business zoning ordinances that would restrict the location of adult stores, and recommended to the Board of Supervisors that they be passed there as well.

Kurt Michael, Chairman of Augusta County Republicans, was instrumental in working with Andrea Oakes, Staunton city council candidate, and Staunton Chairwoman Anne Taetzsch in working toward passage of the ordinances both in Staunton, where they were approved in November 2007, and in Augusta County.

Under the zoning ordinances, adult businesses would be restricted to areas zoned business, and could be no closer than 500 feet to family-oriented areas such as churches, playgrounds, schools, neighborhoods, and libraries.

The Board of Supervisors will take up the ordinances at their meeting on April 23 at 7 pm.
