Full "snow moon" over the Blue Ridge Mountains

Tonight's full moon before it cleared the trees on the ridge behind my house.

Michie Tavern, located in the shadow of Mr. Jefferson's Monticello, posted on their Facebook page today: "There will be a full moon this evening. The Colonial American name for this full moon is 'Trapper Moon.' The native tribes of the northern and eastern states often called this full moon the 'Snow Moon' or 'Hunger Moon.' This is due to harsh weather when heavy snows made hunting extremely difficult."
