Staunton's Guardian Angel Catholic School to close

After struggling financially for years, Guardian Angel Catholic School, located on Churchville Avenue across from Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton, is closing. A minimum goal of 150 students needed to be enrolled for the upcoming school year but only 96 had signed up.

The school had been a part of the community for 12 years and, in 2004, moved to the old Robert E. Lee High School building on Greenville Avenue. It offered education for grades K-12 and sports programs.

The local home school community's sports teams often competed against Guardian Angel soccer and basketball teams.

Two of my neighboring families have children who attend Guardian Angel so it will be an adjustment for them to relocate their kids into another school.

School's out forever, a more indepth article by Bob Stuart can be found in today's Waynesboro News Virginian including interviews with Principal Dan Dolan and Guardian Angel parent John Wirth.
