Fresh off the huge Mitt Romney for President rally held in Fishersville last week where he greeted the 17,000 in attendance in a booming voice, "HELLO, SHENANDOAH VALLEY," Virginia's Lieutenant Governor will be returning to the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday.
Accompanied by his wife, Jean Ann, Bolling has been storming the Valley the past month building momentum and rallying supporters for Romney who is now ahead in the polls. As the chairman of Romney's Virginia campaign just as he was in 2008, Bolling has taken his job seriously and made countless appearances, both with and without Romney, throughout the Commonwealth.
Bolling has been a long time favorite of the area starting when he was first considering running for statewide office in 2003. Another candidate, Sean Connaughton from Northern Virginia, now Secretary of Transportation, was also in the running for the Republican nomination.
In the SWAC area of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County, many of the grassroots leaders liked Bill Bolling, a man who had worked his way up through the ranks from his days on the Hanover County board of supervisors and who had represented his area well in the State Senate.
Just a few weeks before the 2005 June primary, a very successful Bolling fundraiser was held at the home of then-Augusta County GOP Chairman Dr. Kurt Michael in Fishersville where more than 70 people turned out to a catered event that featured up-close-and-personal conversations with both Bill and Jean Ann Bolling.
After easily winning that primary, it was on to the general election and the grassroots supporters once again put together a big Bolling event at the horse farm of Kevin and Vonda Lacey in Augusta County.
Headlined by Bolling, the event was also attended by the candidate running for Attorney General now known as Governor Bob McDonnell (who would go on to win his tie election that year against Creigh Deeds) as well as numerous local elected officials and Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlmann. On a cool October day, the horse barn and grounds were packed with supporters munching on chili and enjoying the changing colors of fall as well as political speeches given from a flatbed hay wagon. It was a great event and November saw Republicans win the Lt. Governor and Attorney General races.
Those same grassroots supporters are now pulling together to help Bill Bolling in his bid to get Mitt Romney elected for President of the United States by hosting the SWAC Breakfast this Saturday, October 13, in Waynesboro at the Golden Corral.
